What you'll learn.

  • Why an unmanaged Mac carries a risk that no management tool alone can remove
  • How to set up an Apple Business organisation, or check an existing one is fit to build on
  • How to connect a management platform, and the renewal mistake that can cost an entire fleet
  • How users will sign in, and the two settings that break enrolment without telling you
  • How to prepare people and devices, including the one step that has no safety net
  • How to stop an unmanaged estate quietly rebuilding itself

Who it's for.

IT support engineers and administrators taking responsibility for Apple devices that have never been centrally managed. It suits anyone working with growing businesses, where laptops were bought as they were needed and nobody set up a device management process at the time.

Is this course free?

Yes. Public courses in the Dr Logic Academy are free. You just need an Academy account to save your progress.

How long does it take?

About 119 minutes, across 7 short modules. Go at your own pace and pick up where you left off.

How does it work?

Each module ends with a short quiz. Pass them all to complete the track.

Do I earn a badge?

Yes. You earn a badge when you complete the track, and it shows on your Academy profile.

Does this apply if we already have Apple Business?

Yes. The course covers both starting points, including how to check an existing organisation belongs to the right company and is configured correctly before you rely on it.

Which management platform does it use?

Microsoft Intune is used as the worked example because it is a common choice, but the structure is the same whichever platform you use and the steps are explained so they transfer.

Do we really have to erase every Mac?

To establish an ownership record, yes. The course explains why, what the alternative gives you, and how to set that expectation with a client who will not want to hear it.

Do I need any particular equipment?

An iPhone, which catches people out. Adding a Mac to Apple Business cannot be done from another Mac, and the course explains what that iPhone needs to be signed in with.

Will this work on older Macs?

Not all of them. The course covers the hardware requirement, how to check it from serial numbers before you promise anything, and what to do about machines that do not meet it.
